Write a neighborhood announcement people can act on

A free notice planner for an event, lost item, yard sale, or useful local update.

Put the practical point first

A neighbor should quickly understand what is happening, where the relevant public place is, and when the information applies. Choose one purpose for the notice. An event invitation needs a date and a way to join; a lost-item notice needs a description and a private way to identify the owner. Avoid making readers search through a long personal introduction to find the action.

Include enough detail without exposing someone

Name a public meeting point when that is sufficient. Leave personal phone numbers, exact home routines, and identifying details about someone else out of a public notice unless they agreed. For a found item, retain one detail that the owner can describe privately. NeighborhoodHub has several ways to connect, including broadcasts, events, groups, and personal places; choose the audience and format deliberately rather than posting the same notice everywhere.

Give the notice an ending

State a reply deadline or a date when the information becomes stale. After an event or a successful return, update the notice so neighbors do not keep responding to an old request. If a location, time, or organizer changes, put the correction where the original readers can find it. A useful local feed depends on maintained information as much as on new posts.

Worked example

A small situation to try

Illustrative notice: “Found near the library benches this morning: a small key ring. If it is yours, send a private description of the charm. I will keep this notice updated through Sunday.” The public version omits a full photo of the keys and the finder’s home address.

Choose a single purpose and the action a neighbor can take.

Include only the location precision needed for this notice.

Choose a private reply channel for identifying or personal information.

When will you correct or close the notice?

What to do next
